This paper describes the theory of liquid adsorption chromatography (LSC) with mixed mobile phase, involving formation of multilayer surface phases. An efficient hybrid field solution to the general multilayer substrates transmission line problems with full shielded and half open cross-sectional geometry is presented by using the waveguide modes coupling and decoupling procedure in the spectral domain. Modal transverse transmission lines corresponding to the LSE and LSM modes are taken into account so that the Green's elements for the edge conditions can be derived by a simple iterative method. In this paper, we analyze not only the propagation constants and characteristic impedances but also the available transmission power capacity and power distribution of most commonly used structures. Polyelectrolytes are widely used in capillary electrophoresis as coating agents of silica capillaries to prevent adsorption phenomena and improve the repeatability of peptide and protein analysis. A systematic study of the coating experimental conditions has been carried out to optimize coating stability and performance. The main experimental parameters studied were the type and concentration of polyelectrolytes used in several monolayer and multilayer coatings, the ionic strength of coating and stabilizing solutions, and the procedures used for coating and capillary storage. Electroosmotic flow magnitude, direction and repeatability were used to monitor coating stability. Coating ability to limit adsorption was investigated by monitoring variations of migration times, time-corrected peak areas and separation efficiency of test peptides. Capillary-to-capillary and batch-to-batch reproducibility was also studied. Polyelectrolyte multilayers of poly(L-glutamic acid) (PGA) and poly(L-lysine) (PLL) were built up using the layer-by-layer (LbL) technique in low pH (3.6, PM3.6) and in neutral pH (7.4, PM7.4) solutions. The multilayers were then treated with a concentrated urea (one kind of denaturant for proteins and polypeptides) solution (8M) and rinsed with corresponding buffer. The buildup and treatment processes were investigated by ultraviolet visible spectroscopy and ellipsometry. The surface morphology was observed by scanning force microscopy (SFM). The inner structures were determined by X-ray reflectometry and circular dichroism spectroscopy (CD). An exponential growth of the optical mass and the layer thickness was observed for both PM3.6 and PM7.4. After urea treatment, a significant mass loss for PM3.6 was found, while no mass change was recorded for PM7.4. The dominant driving force for PM7.4 is electrostatic interaction, resulting in multilayers with an abundant beta-sheet structure, which has higher stability against urea treatment. By contrast, the dominant driving force for PM3.6 is hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interaction, which are sensitive to the urea treatment. The mechanism is substantiated by molecular mechanics calculation. This has offered a convenient pathway to mediate the multilayer properties, which is of great importance for potential applications. 相似文献

Constructing multilayer optical coatings (MOCs) is a difficult large-scale optimisation problem due to the enormous size of the search space. In the present paper, a new approach for designing MOCs is presented using genetic algorithms (GAs) and tabu search (TS). In this approach, it is not necessary to specify how many layers will be present in a design, only a maximum needs to be defined. As it is generally recognised that the existence of specific repeating blocks is beneficial for a design, a specific GA representation of a design is used which promotes the occurrence of repeating blocks. Solutions found by GAs are improved by a new refinement method, based on TS, a global optimisation method which is loosely based on artificial intelligence. The improvements are demonstrated by creating a visible transmitting/infrared reflecting filter with a wide variety of materials. 相似文献

Novel stimuli-responsive multilayer chitosan hollow microspheres with chitosan as the unique component have been fabricated by the sequential layer-by-layer electrostatic assembly technique from the sacrificial templates (polystyrene sulfonate, PSS) with chitosan (CS) as the polycation and carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS) as the polyanion, respectively. Their hollow structure was confirmed by the TEM analysis. The DLS analysis indicated that the multilayer chitosan microcapsules were pH and ionic strength dual-responsive.
